University of Idaho and the College of Western Idaho (CWI) are partnering to launch a new program called Jump Start that will begin offering general education classes in Boise in Fall 2023.

Jump Start is a co-enrollment partnership designed to increase access to college-level programs for students, promote a smooth transition between Idaho’s colleges and universities and promote student success.

“Strong partnerships between Idaho’s colleges and universities, like the one we have with the College of Western Idaho, help support our land-grant mission by improving student access to educational opportunities,” said U of I President Scott Green. “The Jump Start program’s simplified transfer process for students from a two-year institution to our four-year institution provides those based in the Treasure Valley more options for completing a four-year degree.”

In-person classes are delivered in convenient eight-week sessions, with two sessions per semester, allowing students to get a jump start on their degree. Beginning in August 2023, classes will be offered at U of I’s Idaho Water Center in downtown Boise during late afternoons and evenings to accommodate a typical workday schedule.

“We are excited about this collaboration with the University of Idaho,” said CWI President Gordon Jones. “This partnership gives CWI and U of I students new opportunities in the Treasure Valley as they work towards their educational and employment goals.”
